However, in addition to the fantasies, you will probably also have many anxieties given the many aspects you will have to deal with. For this reason we have missed one of the most requested Italian wedding planners who kindly made themselves available to give us some advice on organizing a wedding. The wedding planner we interviewed is Simonetta Pollera of Intimate Italian Weddings.
Before continuing further, we would like to clarify that organizing a wedding is not at all simple. In fact, there are many things to keep in mind, so if you don’t feel like it or if you know you can’t keep up with everything, our advice is to contact a wedding planner, especially if you want to get married in Italy and you and your partner is not italian.
But let’s go in order and see what are the steps you should take to organize a wedding on time.
The timing: to organize a wedding you must start at least 12 months in advance
To organize the most important day of your life, you should start at least 12 months in advance, to avoid last minute trips and do everything with due calm.
First you should set the date. When choosing the date, remember to take into consideration the holidays and the classic holiday periods.
Once you have found an agreement on the date, you can start the procedures for requesting joint publications. Once consent is given, the marriage must be celebrated within 6 months.
The next decision you will have to make concerns the type of marriage: civil or religious. In Italy only civil marriage has legal value. But on the basis of a concordat of the early twentieth century between State and Church, religious marriages that include transcription in state registers are also recognized as full-fledged marriages, like civil marriages.
Organizing a wedding venues in Italy: some basic tips
Type of marriage
One of the fundamental things in organizing a wedding venues in Italy is to choose a style and think about the atmosphere you want to recreate. Simple and for a small circle of friends and relatives, or in style and in the name of pomp? This decision is up to you in any case and depends on your personal tastes. The type of party and the number of guests should also be established at this preliminary stage.
Location
Once you have found an agreement on the type and size of the wedding, you can begin to evaluate your desires in terms of location based above all on the number of guests, but also on the space you have available, and the alternatives available in case of bad weather: much will also depend on the date you have chosen. Remember to visit the location to really see how it will be and avoid unpleasant surprises.
Decorations
The decorations for the wedding depend on the theme and the colors you have chosen. The choice of the elements that will decorate the ceremony is in your hands and must reflect your personal tastes.
Budget for marriage
To avoid unpleasant surprises after the wedding, plan ahead for the budget you are willing to spend on the party. The costs of a marriage rise easily and depend on the wishes of the married couple. In this regard, do not forget to include the honeymoon in the overall budget and find out about the documents, passport or visa, and any necessary vaccinations for your destination without forgetting to inform your employer as well.
Organize a wedding: what to do 7/9 months before
It is time to move on to a more operational phase. Here it will become essential to draw up a list of things to do for the wedding. Here is one below:
- Catering: Choose the lunch or buffet menu, take into account allergies and specific wishes of the guests, plan tastings
- Photographer: A short photo shoot after the ceremony or a photographer present all day (from preparation to the final party)
- Flowers: Floral decorations for the church or town hall, baskets with petals to be scattered at the bride’s entrance, decorations for the car, the bride’s bouquet and the traditional throw, floral decorations for the location and for the tables
- Music: DJ / musicians / bands or singers, choose the musical accompaniment together
- Pastry: Desires and expectations for the wedding cake, planning a tasting
- Transportation: Planning the transport for guests, from the municipality to the location, the return home, the means of transport for the married couple (an old car, a carriage and much more)
- Accommodation: Accommodation for guests, make reservations, organize accommodation for the married couple
- Clothing for the wedding: For many women, choosing the wedding dress is the most exciting and important part of the entire wedding organization. Also take some time into account for any changes and adjustments. You will also need suitable accessories in line with the dress and, first of all, comfortable shoes.
- Wedding rings: Wedding rings can be made in different designs and materials – your personal taste will make you lean towards one style rather than another. Obviously much will depend on your available buget.
- Other: According to your wishes: shows with artists, fireworks, inflatable
Plan a wedding – what to do 3/6 months before
Six months after the established date, you can jointly apply for marriage banns. Here it is above all a matter of finding and delivering a series of indispensable documents for the practice, whether it be a civil marriage or a religious one. In the case of religious marriage, there will be more aspects to be agreed with the pastor: songs, readings, prayers and musical accompaniment during the mass. Participation in the so-called “premarital course” is usually required for church marriage.
